Dr. PM Nair served in the Indian Police Service (IPS) for 35 years and retired in 2013 as the Head (Director General) of the National Disaster Response Force, Civil Defence and Fire Services of the Government of India. He has been working on anti -human trafficking (AHT)for more than 36 years. He has worked with the National Human Rights Commission India and did the first ever action research (2002-2004) on “Trafficking in Women and Children in India” (Orient Longman, 2005). He worked with UNODC, where he set up the first nine AHTU (comprehensive anti-human trafficking units) in India. He has personally trained more than 50,000 police officers, judicial officers, care providers, NGOs, parliamentarians etc in India and abroad. After retirement, he is continuing in this mission of preventing and combating human trafficking. He has been associated with rescue and rehabilitation of more than 10000 trafficked persons. Presently he is Chair Professor at TISS (Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, where, along with the NHRC, he is undertaking another All India Research on Human trafficking. Dr. PM Nair is a recognized international expert on the issues of human trafficking, an eminent speaker and trainer, a national policy maker, ardent advocate on children and women’s rights, a true humanitarian and a national treasure. Dr. Nair is the author of several publication, including books, articles, films, Handbooks, SOPs, Resource materials, training aids, posters etc on preventing and combating human Trafficking, which have received accolades. The Amazon website described the latest book (Human Trafficking: Dimensions, Challenges and Responses”, Konark Publishers, Delhi, 2010) as, an “empowering treatise, prescribing practical and doable programs and methods in addressing the issues and redressing the grievances. The indicators of measurement and parameters of assessment have been scientifically developed. It is a panoply of the issues, dimensions, problems, manifestations and extent of human trafficking, coupled with the best methods of addressing and redressing them…a reference tool fit for NGOs and professionals.”

Dr. Nairruti Jani (Ph.D., LLM, MSW) is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at Florida Gulf Coast University. She is a human rights activist and has contributed extensively in research with regards to human trafficking and women’s rights since 2001. She is actively engaged in research and advocacy related to human trafficking prevention and rehabilitation. Dr. Jani has also produced documentaries highlighting the issue of International Human Trafficking.
